With Barrecore Islington and Mayfair Closed, Where Can You Get Your Barre Fix in Central North London?
If you’re a Barre fan in London, you’ve probably noticed a few closures recently. Barrecore’s Islington and Mayfair locations have shut down, joining the unfortunate list of boutique fitness closures (including Kobox and Reformcore). Unlike Reformer Pilates - where the bulky, high-maintenance beds require permanent space - Barre is theoretically easier for studios to offer. But with fewer dedicated Barrecore sites, where can you still find top-tier Barre classes in central London?
I’ve scouted out the best spots to get your Barre fix. Here’s my top 5 ranking of Barre studios in central and North London:
1) Barrecore – St Mary’s Axe
While Barrecore has closed two of its most convenient locations, their St Mary’s Axe branch is still running. Expect the same signature teaching style and structure, though the studio itself is in a slightly gloomy basement. If you loved Barrecore’s method, this is still your best bet for a familiar workout.
2) Psycle – Oxford Circus
In my experience, Psycle’s Barre classes are challenging, dynamic, and intense. Their Oxford Circus studio is just a five-minute walk from the old Barrecore Mayfair location, making it a seamless transition for former Barrecore regulars. While Psycle is on the pricier side, they offer discounts for students and graduates - you can grab a class for £12.50 at off-peak times.
3) 3Tribes – Borough
I love 3Tribes for its great instructors and welcoming atmosphere. I actually first went there after Digme stopped offering Barre as two of my favourite instructors - Chelsea and Chloe - moved to 3Tribes so I fully recommend their classes. They were the first people to get me into Barre!
4) Flow LDN – Warren Street
A hidden gem in the London fitness scene, Flow LDN is a small boutique studio with a really cute, intimate feel. Their Barre classes are well-structured, and the atmosphere is welcoming. If you’re looking for something different from the big chain studios, this is a great choice.
5) Frame – King’s Cross & Angel
While Frame is best known for its Reformer Pilates and Rebounding classes, they do offer Barre as well. In my experience, attendance in Frame’s Barre classes tends to be lower, likely because they push their other formats more heavily. But when I did go, I had a great workout - the instructor gave hands-on corrections, and the playlist was solid. I always feel that their brightly coloured studios come off a little ‘teenage after school club’ though and are definitely less chique than other studios.
Final Thoughts
If you were a regular at Barrecore Mayfair or Islington, you still have options! Psycle is your best bet for an intense, high-energy alternative, 3Tribes and Flow LDN bring a more boutique, community feel, and Frame offers an affordable way to keep Barre in your routine.
