Where to Work Out Around Blackhorse Road & Tottenham Hale
Blok Leyton announced its closure today - a sad loss for London’s boutique fitness scene. But they’ve hinted at a potential new location around Walthamstow or Blackhorse Road, which would be huge. It would add much-needed variety, including boxing and barre, to an area currently dominated by HIIT, Pilates, and yoga. So, if they do make a comeback here, what would they be joining? Let’s take a look at the fitness options already available around Blackhorse Road and Tottenham Hale.
F45 Blackhorse Road
If you’re into functional fitness, F45 Blackhorse Road is a solid option. This franchise gym has a loyal following and recently upgraded its equipment, adding brand-new squat racks. The workouts change daily, but unlike most group classes, F45 incorporates progressive overload, meaning you’re more likely to see real muscle gains. Sessions follow on-screen workout instructions, with trainers on hand to assist. If you like structured strength training but enjoy the energy of a group setting, this is one to try.
FS8 Blackhorse Road
FS8 - F45’s Pilates-inspired sibling - just opened its doors here, bringing a mix of Reformer Pilates, mat work, and functional training. The setup mirrors F45, with workouts displayed on a screen, but here, you’ll be using the Reformer part-time alongside small weights and floor work. Personally, I find FS8 less appealing than traditional Reformer Pilates, as you get less machine time for the same price. In some locations, I’ve also noticed instructors relying on the screen animations rather than offering hands-on corrections, which can be frustrating. That said, I haven’t tried the Blackhorse Road studio yet - so I’ll reserve full judgment until I do!
LevelOut Blackhorse Road
LevelOut gives off boutique vibes but has venture capital backing - kind of like the Blank Street Coffee of fitness. Their branding is sleek, their studios are beautiful, and their Pilates classes are well-structured. What sets them apart? They offer multiple class levels, including an ‘intense’ Reformer session that I’m eager to try. Conveniently located near F45 and FS8, they’re expanding fast, with a Tottenham Hale studio rumored to be opening soon.
Hotpod Yoga Blackhorse Road
I haven’t made it to Hotpod Yoga Blackhorse Road yet, but I’ve been to one of their instructor’s classes elsewhere - and it was excellent. If you like the idea of flowing through poses in a heated, inflatable pod (yes, really), this one’s for you. They often run a great intro offer: two weeks of unlimited classes for around £25. Definitely worth checking out if you’re into hot yoga.
Final Thoughts
Blackhorse Road and Tottenham Hale are fast becoming fitness destinations in their own right. If Blok does reopen here, it’ll add even more variety to an already solid lineup. In the meantime, whether you’re into lifting, Pilates, or yoga, there’s no shortage of ways to break a sweat.
