Gymbox is joining the reformer pilates scene

Reformer Pilates is having its moment. From big corporate-style gyms like Third Space, 1Rebel, and Psycle to smaller boutique studios, everyone is jumping on board (pun intended). And for good reason—Reformer Pilates, when done right, is accessible to all fitness levels, builds strength and balance, and torches your core like nothing else. And with the London fitness scene currently in flux due to high rents, this is a great time for an established studio to branch out.

So, when Gymbox—known for its anything-but-basic classes—announced today that it’s bringing Reformer Pilates to its new Finsbury Park location, it caught me off guard. Typically, Gymbox maximizes space by rotating through many different class types in the same studio each day. Reformer Pilates, on the other hand, requires a dedicated, permanently equipped space—meaning they’re committing seriously committing to it. Oh, and they’re adding cold plunges too. Nice.

A key frustration with Gymbox has always been its rigid class schedule—it can be tricky to catch a class that fits your schedule. (Case in point: I’ve been trying to get to a weekly class at Holborn for two weeks now but life keeps getting in the way.) But things might be changing. The new Finsbury Park studio is is rumoured to be offering five Reformer Pilates classes a day, which is a step in the right direction.

What does this mean for Gymbox? With new investors stepping in last year, it looks like they’re tuning in to what London’s fitness scene actually wants. And while places like Third Space might have the premium price tag, Gymbox still leads the way in sheer variety—especially with niche classes like Aerial Hoop, Stunt School and Muay Thai Rookie. If this move pays off, maybe we’ll see more Gymbox locations following suit.

Fingers crossed they also give some of the older studios a bit of a glow-up while they’re at it.
