Hotpod yoga tottenham hale review - my honest thoughts as a first timer
I’m not really a yoga person. I’ve been to my fair share of yoga classes, but I’ve often found that not being into the more spiritual side of things (read: a Scientist that feels very out of place in those spaces) puts me on weird footing.
Because of that, I haven’t ventured far out of standard Vinyasa and the occasional Yin - which, to be fair, I do find very relaxing.
But Hotpod Yoga in Tottenham Hale might have changed my mind.
WHY I tried hotpod yoga tottenham hale
About a month ago, while grabbing a coffee near Tottenham Hale station, I came across a sign advertising the local Hotpod Yoga studio’s intro offer: £22 for 14 days unlimited classes.
Coffee in hand, I signed up on my phone then and there and came back the next day for my first class.
first impressions of the studio
I’ve done hot yoga a handful of times before. My favourite until now was at 3Tribes in Borough, which uses ambient (fake) candlelight during practice. It helps me relax and makes the sweat literally dripping off me onto my mat feel a bit less intense.
Most other studios have harsh fluorescent lighting. More than once, I’ve looked around at the (presumably) regulars who are just glistening, then looked down at my very obviously damp mat and felt a little self-conscious.
Hotpod Yoga gets this completely right. Their inflatable, tent-like studio traps head but also glows with soft purple light, making the space feel atmospheric, calm and much more private. I notice other people far less here - and that’s a good thing.
If you’re looking for hot yoga in North London that feels inclusive and unintimidating, this is it.
class types i tried at hotpod yoga tottenham hale
I’ve now taken all three of their class types, with six different instructors. Here's the breakdown:
Nurturing Flow
Usually held in the evenings. It's more Yin-like with gentler heat and lots of stretching. Perfect for winding down before bed.
Hotpod Flow
Their signature class. Many Vinyasas, strength and stretching.
Honestly, this might be the most I’ve ever enjoyed hot yoga - maybe even yoga in general.
There’s no pretentiousness, no overly spiritual chat. Just movement, breath and rest when needed.
I particularly liked instructors Mala and Charlie.
Dynamic Flow
More energetic - closer to power yoga with Pilates-inspired movements.
There’s boat pose, some crow attempts, even the change to try handstands. Jennifer demonstrated some bunnyhops, which I (sort of) attempted. If I stuck around, I could probably learn a decent party trick or two.
final thoughts: Is hotpod yoga worth it?
The community here is welcoming, and despite a considerable lack of flexibility I’ve never once felt like I don’t belong.
Perhaps I’m a yoga convert.
If you’re based in Tottenham Hale or North London, I’d absolutely recommend giving HotPod Yoga a go - especially with their generous intro offer.
