Review: Pilates & Barre Fusion at BXR
I’ve talked about BXR before - mainly because I loved their Versa Climber classes. Their two London locations, Marylebone and the City, are both swanky, offering a mix of gym space, Versa Climber, Strength, Pilates & Barre, Yoga, and Boxing (Marylebone only).
As part of their 8th birthday credit sale, I decided to get acquainted with their Pilates & Barre fusion classes - because if there’s one thing I’ll always try, it’s Barre.
Why Barre Deserves More Hype
I wish Barre was having its moment the way Reformer Pilates is right now. I love the challenge, the burn, and the femininity of it. It’s one of those workouts that genuinely transforms your strength - so I was excited to try how BXR combined it with Pilates.
I ended up taking classes with Evie and Celeste - mostly because their weekend slots fit my schedule. Their classes are often waitlisted, and after trying them, I get why.
✅ They don’t go easy on you - but in a way that keeps you coming back.
✅ Good balance of modifications and challenges - some women in the class were using extra ankle weights, while others were brand new to Barre/Pilates. All of them were considered and both instructors walked round and checked everyone’s form.
✅ Incorporates small weights & Reformer-like moves, which was a nice mix.
✅ Very core-heavy (my weakness, but also, that’s how you improve).
Studio Vibes: Marylebone vs. City
📍 Marylebone Studio
Not the most aesthetic space - surrounded by strength equipment, with a big column in the middle.
The workout itself? Still solid.
📍 City Studio
Much better lighting & a killer view, which makes a big difference.
Similar setup, but the overall vibe feels more premium.
Final Thoughts – Worth It?
I really liked these classes. They’re well-structured, challenging, and well-taught. If you love Barre, Pilates, or just a tough but rewarding workout, this is worth checking out.
✅ Good mix of strength & mobility
✅ Great instructors, solid programming
✅ City location wins for aesthetics
❌ Marylebone studio is less ‘boutique’
I just wish Barre had the same hype as Reformer Pilates - because when done right (like here), it’s an absolute game-changer.
